TikTok for Businesses, what’s working in 2026?

This week marked the return of my Welsh-language podcast Mwydro am Fusnes where I spoke about one of my favourite topics at the minute, TikTok!

You can tap the button below to listen back to the episode, but if you don’t speak Welsh or prefer a written down version I thought I’d put together this handy blog with my key takeaways from the episode on what I find is working great on the platform at the minute.

Mwydro on TikTok

My journey started on TikTok about a year ago. I’d been spending my weekends Groundhopping with my partner Jordan (for those who don’t know, Groundhopping is when you travel to watch football matches in as many football grounds as possible) and I thought to myself – why not give a go at vlogging it!

The first video had a great response and I’d soon built an audience of local Welsh football fans and it has opened doors for me to be featured on BBC Radio Cymru and an article on BBC News’ website.

I’ve also had the chance to expand to creating content for my business too which has gone down great and has been a brilliant tool for expanding my audience. I’d encourage anyone to give it a go and I hope these quick tips help you along your way!

Having a series is a great way for drawing in someone to watch multiple videos and nurture that sense of community. This can be as easy as taking one long video and splitting it into a few smaller videos to finding a common thread to link up your videos together.

I made a three-part series out of designing the map for Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon which went down great and I turned my mission to have fun over Christmas into a Creative Christmas Challenge that encouraged viewers to tune back to the next episode. So as you can see, the possibilities are endless!

If you want a video to perform well on TikTok you need to have something to hook them in at the start. It could be a relatable comment, a striking visual or you teasing information that encourages people to watch through until the end. Take a look at your recently liked and saved videos and make a note of the hook they used to draw you in.

People can often get disheartened by low engagement on their TikTok content but an easy fix for that is to give them a reason to engage! Ask questions to your audience in your video to give them a reason to comment, remind them to follow you so they can catch the next part of your series, or share with a friend who might enjoy it.

And don’t forget, having someone watch your video right through to the end is just as valuable of a metric as someone liking your video, so check out your analytics and let your audience drop-off rate help guide you on how to develop and improve.

So why not have a go!

So if you’re brand new to posting on TikTok or just looking to improve the reach and quality of your content I do hope these tips have helped. I’ve especially found that there is great potential for growth for those creating content through the Welsh language as there’s not that many of us doing it, so more of a chance to stand out.

Can’t wait to see what you create,

Sioned

How to win business awards

Following on from the lovely response to the first episode of my new Welsh language podcast Mwydro am Fusnes where I chatted all things business awards, I was mindful of those who may appreciate the episode’s contents but who don’t speak the language. So, for those who don’t speak Welsh or prefer taking in information through text I’ve prepared this handy blog with my key insights and tips!

When I won my first business award in a skyscraper in London in 2023 I only ran my business one day a week and almost entirely through the Welsh language. I didn’t follow a fancy course to learn my craft of Digital Illustration and Marketing. Instead I followed YouTube and TikTok tutorials online in lockdown and took it from there! So if I can win awards I’m confident any other small business owner can too.

Business awards are also a brilliant way of recognising all of your hard work, for yourself and for current and future clients and customers. So if you’ve been thinking of applying or if it’s never crossed your mind, I hope this blog is of some help to you!

This may be soooo obvious for some, but for some reason I was fully convinced that the only way you could be nominated for business awards was for someone else to put your name forward. That’s not the case with many business awards though and when I asked my friend Gerogina Merckel Evans how she went about winning IPSE’s Young Freelancer of the Year Award in 2022 I was surprised to her filled in a form and nominated herself.

With a few hours to spare on a long train journey down to Cardiff I went ahead and put forward my application for IPSE’s 2023 awards and I was overjoyed to then be invited to London to the awards and over the moon when I was awarded IPSE’s Young Freelancer of the Year 2023.

Small Business Sunday (SBS) is one of the leading small business networks in the UK. Each week, Theo Paphitis welcomes 6 small businesses to the community and gives them a massive publicity boost. They also gain access to a network of like-minded small and micro businesses in the UK.

I was lucky to join the SBS community in April 2023 on my second attempt where I described my business in a paragraph on Instagram. With services ranging from GIFs in Schools Workshops to Design Commissions to Business Workshops I had a lot I could talk about. However, I used good sense and looked at patterns in former winners to identify one key interesting element of my business and put a snappy, concise summary of that service and how it makes my business unique.

If you think of it from the perspective of those assessing applications, they want something that captures attention and is easy to understand and following those simple steps should hopefully lead you to success.

Despite being in the depths of the flu I had a great time in March 2025 at the Gogledd Creadigol awards in Dylan’s, Llandudno where I won the Digital Visionary Award. I’d made the shortlist the year before so I was thrilled to take home a trophy in March.

Just like IPSE Awards I was able to nominate myself, alongside being nominated by peers, friends and family members. From attending the awards in 2024, storytelling and transformation was a key theme in all winners so instead of simply stating facts I leant into the transformation I’d went through in my business diversifying from handmade cards and crafts into teaching myself the art of digital illustration.

It seemed to work as I was crowned the Digital Visionary award winner. If we think of reality competition shows we enjoy watching on television this transformation theme comes up often, from a Queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race developing in skills and confidence to a contestant on Bake Off overcoming adversity through baking.

If you’re struggling to think of a transformation you’ve been through, ask friends or family for their thoughts as I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to help!

I do hope these tips have been useful for you and if you’ve been feeling doubtful that it’s given you a boost that everyone is worthy of winning business awards!

Set a timer on your phone for 5pm on Sunday to have a go at applying for the Small Business Sunday awards and let’s see how we get along from there!

For all things Mwydro be sure to stay in touch on Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, and please let me know what you think of a blog and pass it on to a friend who may enjoy it!

Mwydro marks Gwynedd Business Week with the launch of a brand new Welsh language business podcast.

Caernarfon based creative entrepreneur Sioned Young is today celebrating the launch of her brand new Welsh language business podcast ‘Mwydro am Fusnes’ to coincide with Gwynedd Business Week, an annual event by Cyngor Gwynedd that gives businesses from across the county the opportunity to come together to connect, learn and grow.

Mwydro am Fusnes will offer a fresh, accessible space for business conversations entirely in Welsh – addressing a gap in the market for Welsh language business content. Episodes will be released every other week, starting with solo episodes before introducing guest interviews with fellow Welsh language business owners in early 2026.

The first episode, Sut i ennill gwobrau busnes(How to win business awards) draws on Sioned’s own experience and success as IPSE’s Young Freelancer of the Year, Gogledd Creadigol’s Digital Visionary award recipient and winner of Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday. The episode explores practical tips and insider insights for small businesses and creatives aiming to gain recognition through awards.

I’m a big fan of business podcasts and find them to be a great way of getting inspired and educated in a fun and accessible way. For a while I’ve been longing to enjoy a business podcast in my native language so I thought why not go and have a go at filling that gap in the market myself.” said Sioned Young, founder of Mwydro.

I also love hearing the inspirational tales of fellow small business owners in Wales who have built incredible businesses through the Welsh language and I can’t wait to give them a platform to share their stories and insights through Mwydro am Fusnes.”

Each episode of Mwydro am Fusnes will explore themes such as entrepreneurship, creativity, marketing and innovation – celebrating Welsh business voices and fostering community through the Welsh language.

Mwydro yn nodi Wythnos Busnes Gwynedd gyda lansiad podlediad busnes Cymraeg newydd sbon.

Mae’r bennod gyntaf, Sut i ennill gwobrau busnes yn tynnu ar brofiad a llwyddiant Sioned ei hun fel Gweithiwr Llawrydd Ifanc y Flwyddyn IPSE, derbynnydd gwobr Gweledigaeth Ddigidol Gogledd Creadigol ac enillydd Small Business Sunday Theo Paphitis. Mae’r bennod yn archwilio tipiau ymarferol a mewnwelediadau i fusnesau bach sy’n anelu at gael cydnabyddiaeth trwy wobrau.

Rwy’n ffan fawr o bodlediadau busnes ac yn eu gweld yn ffordd wych o gael fy ysbrydoli a’n haddysgu mewn ffordd hwyl a hygyrch. Ers sbel rydw i wedi bod eisiau podlediad busnes yn fy iaith frodorol felly dyma fi’n meddwl pam lai rhoi cynnig ar lenwi’r bwlch hwnnw yn y farchnad fy hun.” meddai Sioned Young, sylfaenydd Mwydro.

Dwi hefyd wrth fy modd yn clywed straeon ysbrydoledig berchnogion busnesau bach yng Nghymru sydd wedi adeiladu busnesau anhygoel drwy’r Gymraeg a fedrai ddim aros i roi llwyfan iddynt rannu eu straeon a’u mewnwelediadau drwy Mwydro am Fusnes.

Bydd pob pennod o Mwydro am Fusnes yn archwilio themâu fel entrepreneuriaeth, creadigrwydd, marchnata ac arloesi – gan ddathlu lleisiau busnes Cymru a meithrin cymuned drwy’r Gymraeg.

Celebrating #ShwmaeSumae with over 70 new Welsh GIFs!

When better than Diwrnod Shwmae S’umae to announce 74 brand new Welsh Language GIFs by Mwydro for everyone to use free of charge on social media!

The GIFs, which showcase local Idioms, Proverbs and Saying, were designed by secondary school pupils in Ceredigion in a series of recent GIFs i Ysgolion workshops led by Caernarfon based digital illustration business, Mwydro.

The workshops were led jointly with Cardi Iaith, the Welsh Language Support Team at Ceredigion County Council, to give pupils a fun and unique opportunity to use and celebrate the Welsh language through digital art.

A week’s tour of seven workshops saw over 200 pupils take up the challenge of turning their on paper sketches of regional idioms and sayings from ‘Wedi Danto’ to ‘Cof fel Gogr’ to ‘Chwit Chwat’ into digital masterpieces. The best were then selected to be transformed into animated GIF stickers and be placed in the public GIF search bar.

Enfys Hatcher, a teacher at Ysgol Henry Richard noted: “Thank you to Mwydro and Cardi Iaith for coming out to our school. It was a great experience for the pupils. The idioms are great!”

To discover the full collection of GIFs search @mwydro in the public GIF search bar on Instagram, Snapchat or TikTok, or ‘@mwydro Sticker’ on Facebook, X, WhatsApp or Canva. Or, you can also search the name of the individual idiom or proverb in the search bar.

Mwydro’s collection of Welsh Language GIFs is now almost 1,500 GIFs, which have been viewed over 250 million times. Sioned Young, founder of Mwydro noted:

“It’s a special feeling being able to offer something which makes it easy and fun for anyone from any part of the world to use the Welsh Language on their socials. Mwydro doesn’t make any commission or royalties from people using our public collection of Welsh Language GIFs, but it’s great to see how they’ve reached so many people.”

Mwydro travels all over Wales leading GIFs in Schools workshops including Welsh Language Place Name GIF Workshops which have been enjoyed by over 100 schools, and by now also the new Welsh Idioms workshop. For further information or to arrange a workshop, contact Mwydro on info@mwydro.com

A new term of GIF in Schools Workshops

Today is an exciting day as the order books for the autumn term for Mwydro’s Gweithdai GIFs i Ysgolion officially opens.

Since over a year the digital illustration business from Caernarfon, Mwydro, has been travelling to over 100 schools all over Wales to bring the Welsh Language, History and IT into one fun and interactive workshop.

The workshops, aimed at Year 5 and 6 pupils, offer the chance for pupils to celebrate their language and square mile by designing a GIF of a Place Name of their choice, which would then be placed in the public GIF search bar for everyone to use on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp and more.

The project strongly aligns with the Curriculum for Wales’ cross-cutting themes of local, national and international contexts and offers the opportunity for pupils to learn a brand new skill all within a fun two hour workshop.

Workshops are delivered in Welsh, English or Bilingual in all parts of Wales. Workshops can be delivered in person in Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy, or virtually to all other counties.

Over this summer term Mwydro has been working with Pembrokeshire County Council to deliver virtual GIF Workshops to all schools in the county. Catrin Phillips, Welsh Language Development Officer at Pembrokeshire County Council noted;
