This week marked the return of my Welsh-language podcast Mwydro am Fusnes where I spoke about one of my favourite topics at the minute, TikTok!
You can tap the button below to listen back to the episode, but if you don’t speak Welsh or prefer a written down version I thought I’d put together this handy blog with my key takeaways from the episode on what I find is working great on the platform at the minute.
Mwydro on TikTok
My journey started on TikTok about a year ago. I’d been spending my weekends Groundhopping with my partner Jordan (for those who don’t know, Groundhopping is when you travel to watch football matches in as many football grounds as possible) and I thought to myself – why not give a go at vlogging it!
The first video had a great response and I’d soon built an audience of local Welsh football fans and it has opened doors for me to be featured on BBC Radio Cymru and an article on BBC News’ website.
I’ve also had the chance to expand to creating content for my business too which has gone down great and has been a brilliant tool for expanding my audience. I’d encourage anyone to give it a go and I hope these quick tips help you along your way!
1. Series
Having a series is a great way for drawing in someone to watch multiple videos and nurture that sense of community. This can be as easy as taking one long video and splitting it into a few smaller videos to finding a common thread to link up your videos together.
I made a three-part series out of designing the map for Gŵyl Fwyd Caernarfon which went down great and I turned my mission to have fun over Christmas into a Creative Christmas Challenge that encouraged viewers to tune back to the next episode. So as you can see, the possibilities are endless!
2. Hooks, Hooks, Hooks!
If you want a video to perform well on TikTok you need to have something to hook them in at the start. It could be a relatable comment, a striking visual or you teasing information that encourages people to watch through until the end. Take a look at your recently liked and saved videos and make a note of the hook they used to draw you in.

3. Calls to Action
People can often get disheartened by low engagement on their TikTok content but an easy fix for that is to give them a reason to engage! Ask questions to your audience in your video to give them a reason to comment, remind them to follow you so they can catch the next part of your series, or share with a friend who might enjoy it.
And don’t forget, having someone watch your video right through to the end is just as valuable of a metric as someone liking your video, so check out your analytics and let your audience drop-off rate help guide you on how to develop and improve.
So why not have a go!
So if you’re brand new to posting on TikTok or just looking to improve the reach and quality of your content I do hope these tips have helped. I’ve especially found that there is great potential for growth for those creating content through the Welsh language as there’s not that many of us doing it, so more of a chance to stand out.
Can’t wait to see what you create,
Sioned
