Today is an exciting day as the order books for the autumn term for Mwydro’s GIFs in Schools Workshops officially opens.
Since over a year the digital illustration business from Caernarfon, Mwydro, has been travelling to over 100 schools all over Wales to bring the Welsh Language, History and IT into one fun and interactive workshop.
The workshops, aimed at Year 5 and 6 pupils, offer the chance for pupils to celebrate their language and square mile by designing a GIF of a Place Name of their choice, which would then be placed in the public GIF search bar for everyone to use on Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp and more.
The project strongly aligns with the Curriculum for Wales’ cross-cutting themes of local, national and international contexts and offers the opportunity for pupils to learn a brand new skill all within a fun two hour workshop.
Sioned Young, founder of Mwydro and IPSE’s Young Freelancer of the Year award, noted;
“My assistant Tesni and I love travelling Wales with our GIFs in Schools Workshops. Seeing how much fun the pupils and teachers have, and the pride on their faces at the end of the workshop when they’ve created a piece of artwork to celebrate their square mile is a very special feeling.”
Workshops are delivered in Welsh, English or Bilingual in all parts of Wales. Workshops can be delivered in person in Anglesey, Gwynedd and Conwy, or virtually to all other counties.

Over this summer term Mwydro has been working with Pembrokeshire County Council to deliver virtual GIF Workshops to all schools in the county. Catrin Phillips, Welsh Language Development Officer at Pembrokeshire County Council noted;
“As a county, we asked Mwydro to work with our schools to present digital illustration workshops to support the Welsh Language Charter’s work and celebrate Pembrokeshire’s place names. It’s been a pleasure working with Sioned by organising this project and her professional and loveable attitude.
The feedback from the schools has been very positive, with the children enjoying the sessions very much. It’s a project which not only promotes Welsh language skills but also nurtures a feeling of pride and belonging to heir habitat.
We’re very happy with the final GIFs and they’ll be sure to expand the use of the Welsh language amongst parents and visitors. We’re very fortunate of our pupils and Mwydro’s work by putting Pembrokeshire’s beautiful places firmly on the map and on the internet. I’d encourage any school or county to take part in this great initiative.”
